Not everyone wants larger, fuller lips. Many people feel that their lips are too big and may overshadow the rest of their face, and want them reduced. Lip reduction is surgery to remove excess lip tissue and reduce the size of overly large lips.

The procedure can be performed on one or both lips. The surgical procedure is not very invasive, but there will be some pain and swelling post operatively. In this surgery, an incision is made across the length of the lip on the inside of the mouth. A strip of lip tissue or mucous membrane is removed from the lip and then sutured closed. This will thin the lip and pull it slightly inward, making it less full. The lips and mouth may feel tight and quite tender as the anesthesia wears off.
